PAST

The city of Breezy Point wasn’t always known as Breezy Point-it was first known as the Village of Pelican Lakes. But thanks to a mix up in a furniture delivery for the Breezy Point Resort, the owners petitioned to have the name changed, becoming the City of Breezy Point in 1974. Not only did Breezy Point Resort play a role in this city’s name, it also has long been a highlight of this community, as it opened in the early 1920’s and hosted guests such as Clark Gable and Carole Lombard.

PRESENT

The people of Breezy Point reside in a sort of vacationer’s paradise, surrounded by pristine Pelican Lake, nestled in the pines and home to the 90 year-old Breezy Point Resort. With six miles of shoreline, rolling terrain, an abundance of wildlife, and spectacular sunrises and sunsets, Breezy Point is an attractive community.

With a population of just under 2400, this bedroom community has a lot to offer as it is part of the Brainerd Micropolitan Statistical Area and attracts people from a wide local area. Residents and visitors alike enjoy a variety of amenities such as Gooseberry Island for swimming, 3 golf courses, several bars and restaurants, the hockey arena, as well the newly built fishing pier and upcoming disc golf park.

The Pelican Woods Cemetery and Nature Trail is a feature that the community is very proud of. The walking trail spans the radius of the park, which includes beautiful flowers and striking landscape design, a shelter, and an All Veteran’s Memorial sculpture created by local artist, Jeff Kreitz. The cemetery also hosts an annual butterfly release each summer, which is a fun event for locals and visitors alike.

Breezy Point’s Pelican Lake Conservation Club has been a part of the community since the 1940’s and is still very active in their devotion to “improving the environmental quality of the watershed areas of Pelican and Little Pelican lakes. They host monthly dinners at the community center and offer scholarships to high school students. They maintain a compost pile for yard waste on their 20 acres of undeveloped wooded land and have a five year plan for nature trail development and observation platforms.

With a modern elementary school, airport, Ice Fest, and “loon watchers”, this community embraces its assets and continues to be a place people call home.
